Diabetic Foot Care

Diabetic patients need to take special care of their feet. This is why here at Orange CA Podiatry located in Orange, CA, we are trained in providing crucial foot care to our diabetic patients.

Diabetes changes the body; making it less resilient to sores and infections. A foot infection for a diabetic patient is dangerous, as it can lead to amputation. Furthermore, diabetic nerve damage in the feet can cause patients to not be able to feel their feet, making keeping them safe all the more of a struggle.

If you have diabetes, take these tips for taking good care of your feet:

Check your feet every day for any abnormalities like cuts, blisters, or dry skin. Use a mirror to check the bottoms of your feet, if you cannot see them easily.

Wash and dry your feet thoroughly every day. Diabetes can cause abnormal sweat and oil production in the feet, so you want to make sure they are frequently cleaned and dried completely.

Protect your feet from harm by always wearing socks and shoes. Make sure you are wearing comfortable shoes that give your feet enough room.

Be active in everyday life. Physical activity increases blood flow, so that it reaches all areas of the body. For those who have long periods of inactivity, put your feet up; wiggling your toes and feet for five minutes. Do this two or three times per day.

Caring for your feet is essential for diabetic patients. If you notice injury, sores, or want a partner for your foot protection, schedule an appointment with us in our Orange, CA office by calling (714) 628-1995. To learn more about Orange CA Podiatry, visit our website, www.orangecapodiatry.com
