Ingrown Toenail Treatment

Ingrown toenails can be unsightly, painful, and problematic. At Orange CA Podiatry in Orange, CA, we have treated many of our patients’ ingrown toenails, as it is a common condition. We bring comfort back to your feet and halt a problem from turning uncontrollable.

An ingrown toenail happens when the edge of the toenail becomes embedded into the flesh surrounding it. It most commonly happens to the big toe due to insufficient room for the toes in shoes, stubbing the toe, or trimming the toenail incorrectly. While it most commonly happens to the big toe, other nails can be affected, as well. Ingrown toenails can be very painful, especially when bumped or hit. It can create tenderness, swelling and redness in the area. If left untreated, an ingrown toenail may break the skin and cause an infection.

In order to treat an ingrown toenail, the section of toenail that is embedded often needs to be surgically removed. To avoid re-growth of the toenail back into the skin, a cushion may be put in place to guide the toenail into the correct direction as it begins to grow again.

If you are experiencing pain and redness around your toenail, come see us for an evaluation. To schedule an examination with Orange CA Podiatry in Orange, CA, give us a call at (714) 628-1995. For more information, visit our website, www.orangecapodiatry.com
